Terms to Know

Lobby:

Lobby is the 'front door' of this discussion forum. By default, it is where all available forums are displayed. On the other hand, only the conferences maybe displayed if the administrator has chosen that option.

Examples of this would be, American Idol, America's next top model, Biggest Loser, etc, etc

Confrence:

A conference is a collection of forums that are related. For example, you may have a conference titled Programming which contains 3 forums Perl, Java, and Basic.

There are two American Idol Forums in the conference

Forum:

A forum is where the discussions on related topics take place. When you enter a forum, you will see the listing of topics. Each topic contains the original message and, if applicable, replies to that message.

Thread or Topic

A thread is another word for a topic. Each thread contains one original message and all replies to that message. By default, it is fully-threaded in that there is a table of contents which shows you the flow of the discussion. If the linear style option is chosen by the administrator, the thread will display the replies in the order of their response date.

I created my first thread called over-rated, it was really fun to make and it's a way to start conversations that you find important to talk about.

Spoiler:

A Spoiler is something that gives away information that has yet to be revieled on your show.

Since American Idol is now Live there aren't any spoilers anymore but during auditions there were spoilers. People love their spoilers.

Media Fandom Participation

This is my log of what I am doing online and some of my feelings about my experiences. I will bold the amount of time I spent in the discussion forum to make it easy to establish how much time I spent in it.

February

15: Today I spent 2 hours looking for and being active in my Media fandom forum. I Decided I wanted to be a part of the Rock of Love 2 discussion board and have posted three things and now I am just waiting for a few replies on my post. I also looked at the archives of the Rock of Love discussion board of last seasons show and I am rally interested to start being active in the discussion forum.

18: Today I really only checked the posts of others, there really isn’t that much activity going on, so I was really only lurking today. I spend 1 hour on the forum and 2 hour looking at pictures from both seasons of and blogs on other sites and checking out previous contestants Myspace pages to see if I could post something on a discussion board about things I read.

20: Today I decided that I needed to move to a different forum because the 2 I previously joined had no activity and I really wasn’t being an active participant. So I started a search for and ACTIVE message board. I finally decided on an American Idol forum on realitytvworld.com. I spent a lot of time on it looking at archives again, seeing if it stays active throughout the season as well as if there are many people involved. I haven’t posted anything yet. But I have found some pictures of the contestants, checked out their bios and made myself familiar with the forum and its rules, lingo and other important things. Overall I spent 2 hours working today.

23: Today I finally was ready to make some posts and I actually created a thread which was exciting because I am curious what people have to say about my thoughts. I have also been reading all the hot topic threads to catch up on stuff I may have missed. Everyone seems to be into the show so I think this is going to be a good experience. I spent 1 on the board today.

24: Somebody already has responded to my Thread and I am feeling pretty awesome!! It is kind of crazy. I really focused on my wiki today and I tried to get that all set up. I found pictures of some of my favorite people and some of the people I hate the most. When I read the post I get frustrated with people some times because they love the people I hate, they must be tone deaf. Today I spent 2 hours online because tomorrow is my presentation and I need to be prepared.

March

12: It has been a while since I have been on the forum. I haven’t been able to watch American Idol as religiously as I would like to due to school. I did get a chance to go online and look at the forums and see what has been going on. I really was a lurker today because I didn’t feel like I could add anything of value because I am so behind on the show. I did get some useful information that I have missed. I found out about a scandal from one of the contestants which was pretty interesting. I lurked for about 1 hour today and caught up on a lot of the stuff I missed out on. My community has my back when I miss an episode.

18: I have been pretty active lately in the last couple of days I have been on the forum commenting and adding threads and checking out other sites my fellow community mates have suggested. One I like to visit frequently is votefortheworst.com. It is funny, the people who run this site think they are so powerful, I think they are lame. The last few days I have spent probably an hour a day totaling 2ish hours.

29: I don’t go on as much anymore it is starting to slow down a little, I think people are starting to lose interest in the show because this year it seems to be really boring. I tried to do live chat today to mix it up a little and waited in a room by myself for about an hour and finally gave up. I was also catching up on my message board while waiting. Nothing to exciting. I spent 1 hour today online

April

12: NOOOOO My favorite guy was kicked off Idol and the message boards have been crazy. I spent 30 minutes catching up on the boards and I live did live chat for about 30 minutes which was not as stimulating as I thought it was going to be. 1 hour total today

22: I have 15 hours in but I am continuing to participate in the message boards. The rumors going around are hysterical. Is David gay, is Carly prego, why does David Cook wear an orange bracelet all the time. I only spent ½ an hour on it today.

May

5: I was really active this week because it is my last week doing it. I won’t continue because I have decided I hate American Idol. I hate the contestants, host, judges, fans, everything. I’m being a brat but it is just old to me. My community has been fun, people get so into this show I love it. I made some new threads (one was called it’s all downhill from here) and commented on half a dozen as well(Mostly ones that were bashing people or the show in general). The last week and a half I probably spent a total of 3.5 hour actively writing posts, reading, and attempting to live chat which did not work. Adios Discussion forum.
